John Adams turned out to be an unexpected gem which Natalie and I stumbled upon on Amazon Prime. This HBO miniseries gave an incredibly interesting view of the revolutionary beginnings of the United States of America, breathing life and character into the dry textbook entries of our childhoods. This series spans John Adams’ life from the Boston Massacre through his death, during which time he has surprisingly mundane interactions with such legends as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin. It is interesting to have a window into what they deemed important at the time, and to compare to what of theirs we now hold dear. The portrayal of these various Founding Fathers gives a more realistic, human image of each, and led me as the viewer to have a far greater appreciation for the fragile beginning of our great nation, for which I am deeply thankful.
