After more than a year, I have finally finished reading A Dance with Dragons, the fifth installment in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fires series. This series quickly became one of my all-time favorites, and I look forward to watching its popular HBO series. However, while I still loved it, this particular book is the weakest of the series. (Funny that I gave the same judgment of A Feast for Crows, the preceding book, before having read this one!) It’s particularly long and the plot drags through most of it – hence my taking more than a year to slog through it. It does pick up in the last third, but never culminates in any of the battles that it spends so long developing. This at least is promising for the next book, The Winds of Winter, in which we can expect a lot of action and movement.
