The Lorax is a fun animation that allows adults to revisit a Dr. Seuss childhood favorite. In keeping with the children’s book, this movie has a heavy-handed environmentalist message. While the movie is at times perhaps too heavy-handed, I appreciated its unapologetic message about our modern treatment of the environment. Admittedly, I’ve been in that frame of mind recently as I’ve been reading Everyday Justice and thinking about global justice issues, so I may have received the message better than the average viewer. Nonetheless, I like that the book and movie alike aim to instill children with an appreciation for the earth and the consequences of our actions before they grow up and changing habits becomes increasingly difficult. Sadly, the real world is unlike Thneed-Ville in that we do not quickly and easily change our habits as a culture.
